Arcade Fire Share Video for New Song “Creature Comfort”
Everything Now Due Out July 28 via Columbia
Jun 16, 2017 Portishead
Arcade Fire are releasing a new album, Everything Now, on July 28 via their new label Columbia. They have previously shared a video for the album’s title track, “Everything Now,” announced a tour, and shared a funny fake cereal ad/teaser video for another song from the album, “Creature Comfort.” Now the band has shared a full on video for “Creature Comfort.” The video features the band performing the song in a room with a lot of strobe lights. The camera is static and the lyrics to the song scroll above and below the picture. Musically the song is shiny and upbeat, but lyrically it tackles suicide, fame, and other weighty issues. Win Butler sings about a fan who filled up the bathtub, put on the band’s first record (Funeral), and almost killed herself. It’s a bit of a weird juxtaposition of lyrics and music. Geoff Barrow of Portishead and BEAK> co-produced the song and plays synths on it (Win Butler recently remixed BEAK>‘s “Sex Music”). Watch the video below.
Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and Pulp’s Steve Mackey produced Everything Now with the band, with co-production by Markus Dravus. The album was recorded in three different countries: at Boombox Studios in New Orleans, Sonovox Studios in Montreal, and Gang Recording Studio in Paris. It will be released on CD, cassette, and heavyweight black vinyl LP, as well as digitally. The vinyl version “will feature 20 different artwork variants, each bearing the album title in one of 20 different languages.”
In January Arcade Fire released a brand new song, “I Give You Power,” that featured the guest vocals of soul legend and civil rights activist Mavis Staples. Its release the day before President Donald Trump’s inauguration was probably no accident, especially as all proceeds from the song are being donated to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The tracklist for the album hasn’t been released yet, so there’s no word on whether or not “I Give You Power” is on the album. The band’s last full-length was 2013’s Reflektor.
