Beach House Share Trippy “Drunk in LA” Video and “Black Car (Sonic Boom Remix)”

Video Also Directed by Sonic Boom

Sep 11, 2018 Beach House

Baltimore duo Beach House (Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally) released a new album, 7 (titled as such because it’s their seventh album), back in May via Sub Pop. It was our Album of the Week. Now they have shared a trippy video for the album’s “Drunk in LA” directed by Sonic Boom (aka Pete Kember, formerly of Spacemen 3), as well as a remix of the album’s “Black Car” by Sonic Boom. Kember co-produced 7 with the band. Check out the video and remix below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Beach House collectively had this to say about the video and remix in a press release: “7 was co-produced by Sonic Boom aka Peter Kember. We had a lot of fun with him throughout the process, and he helped us remember that any idea is welcome in a recording environment (he played a drill on ‘Lemon Glow’).

“While mixing the record with Alan Moulder in London, we were out having dinner and Pete mentioned an idea for a video where the viewer is always looking up from the ground. This became the ‘Drunk in LA’ video. When he sent it to us, we complimented and commented on the trippy, dreamlike nature of the video and he wrote that it was essentially just a day in his life.

“We have never had a remix, but we thought it would be cool if Pete did one. We really like the one he did for ‘Black Car,’ because it feels like a different song, focused largely on voice and arpeggio. It feels like a poem this way, and the minimal treatment highlights the lonesome quality of the song. Hope you enjoy! Much Love.”

Previously Beach House shared the album’s “Lemon Glow” (which was one of our Songs of the Week) and “Dive” (which was also one of our Songs of the Week), as well as a video for “Dive.” (They also released a lengthy statement about the album.) Then they shared the album’s third single, “Dark Spring,” via a visually arresting video for the song. “Dark Spring” was our #1 Song of the Week. Then they shared “Black Car,” which was also our #1 Song of the Week. The band also stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform “Drunk in LA.” Then they shared a video for “Black Car.”

Beach House put out two albums in 2015: Depression Cherry and Thank Your Lucky Stars, both via Sub Pop. In 2017 they released a B-sides and rarities compilation, fittingly titled B-Sides and Rarities, also via Sub Pop.
