Beck Covers The Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting for My Man”

Part of Spotify’s Music Happens Here Series

Jan 25, 2018 The Velvet Underground

Beck released a new album, Colors, last October via Capitol. Now he has covered The Velvet Underground classic “I’m Waiting for My Man” as part of Spotify’s Music Happens Here series. It’s not the first time he’s covered the song, back in 2009 he covered the entire The Velvet Underground and Nico album the song comes from as part of his Record Club project. That version featured Nigel Godrich and Giovanni Ribisi. The new cover is a more straight-ahead version. Listen below.

In June 2016 Beck released a brand new song, “Wow,” and announced plans to release an as yet to be titled new album sometime via Capitol (it was originally due out October 2016, but was pushed back to a TBA date). “Wow” followed “Dreams,” a standalone single that was released in 2015, and “Wow” matches that track’s poppy vibe, sounding more like something from his great 1999 album Midnight Vultures rather than his last album, 2014’s more subdued Morning Phase, which won the Grammy for Album of the Year. “Dreams” is featured on Colors but in a new mix. Beck later shared a lyric video for “Dear Life” and a full on video for “Up All Night,” as well as a video for “Fix Me.”
