Beck to Release New Album in February
Morning Phrase is First Studio Album Since 2008
Oct 28, 2013
Beck
In the last few years the usually prolific Beck has put out sheet music, redid David Bowie’s “Sound and Vision” with an orchestra, produced Jamie Lidell, provided songs for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and covered several albums with his “Record Club” featuring the likes of Feist, MGMT, Wilco, St. Vincent, and Liars. But what he hasn’t done since 2008 is release a new studio album. That’ll change next February with Morning Phrase, which will be his first album in six years, since Modern Guilt.
A press release calls Morning Phrase “a companion piece of sorts to Beck’s 2002 classic Sea Change.” That means we should probably expect a more somber, stripped down, and acoustic affair and not a twisted party record in the vein of Midnight Vultures. Morning Phrase features some of Sea Change‘s players—Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker, Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr., and Jason Falkner—who are also his current live band.
Beck has signed to Capitol Records, who will release Morning Phrase in February 2014.
Further details of the exact release date, tracklist, and album cover will be revealed later.
