Belle and Sebastian’s Stuart Murdoch Publishes Book
The Celestial Cafe is a Collection of Diary Entries
Nov 30, 2010 Belle and Sebastian
The man who writes about love also writes about himself: Belle and Sebastian vocalist Stuart Murdoch announced today the publication of his first book, The Celestial Cafe, which is a collection of diary entries from the personal blog he keeps on the band’s website. The collection, published by Pomona Books, pieces together Murdoch’s entries between the years 2002 and 2006, during which Belle and Sebastian were recording and touring the albums Dear Catastrophe Waitress and The Life Pursuit. However, Murdoch makes it clear that this is not your typical coke-and-groupie-crazed rock and roll memoir, stating the diaries are “very light on the subjects of drug taking, orgies and general debauchery.”
Although The Celestial Cafe does not see a general release until next year, it is available now on the Pomona website and at Belle and Sebastian shows. Murdoch will also hold a book reading and author Q&A at the Belle and Sebastian-curated Bowlie 2 festival on December 12th in Somerset, U.K.
