Black Belt Eagle Scout is the project of Portland-based Katherine Paul, an indigenous queer musician who grew up in a small Indian reservation, the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, and whose debut album, Mother of My Children, is due out September 14 via Saddle Creek. Now she has shared another song from the album, “Indians Never Die,” via a video for the song, which was filmed on the ancestral lands of the Chinook, Chinnuk Wawa, and Tillamook tribes. Watch it below, followed by her upcoming tour dates.

The song was inspired by The Dakota Access Pipeline protests at Standing Rock. Paul had this to say about the song in a press release: “Our treaty rights weren’t being honored. Imagine hearing on the news that the government doesn’t support you as a human being and never has. ‘Indians Never Die’ is a call out to colonizers and those who don’t respect the Earth; they don’t care about the water, they don’t care about how they are destroying what is around them. Indigenous people are the protectors of this land. Indians never die because this is our land that we will forever protect in the present and the afterlife.”

Evan James Atwood directed the video. Previously Black Belt Eagle Scout shared two songs from the album, “Soft Stud” and “Just Lie Down.”
