Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has shared a new solo song, “Yemaya.” It’s available to download and stream now via Infectious Music. Okereke has previously released two solo albums under his first name only, so this is his first release going by his full name. Listen to it below, followed by the single’s cover art and some upcoming tour dates.
Okereke commented on the song in a press release: “In the west African Yoruba religion, Yemaya is the mother goddess of the ocean, she is kinda the patron saint of pregnant women and fertility. According to myth, when her waters broke, it caused a great flood creating rivers and streams and the first mortal humans were created from her womb. When I knew we were having a baby she started to be appear in my thoughts and dreams a fair bit.”
