Blood Orange Announces New Mixtape Due Out This Friday
Angel’s Pulse Due Out July 12 via Domino
Jul 08, 2019 Blood Orange
Blood Orange (aka Dev Hynes) released a new album, Negro Swan, back in August 2018 via Domino. Now he has announced a new mixtape, Angel’s Pulse, that is due out this Friday, July 12 via Domino. Above is the cover art. Below is a statement from Hynes about the release, as well as Blood Orange’s upcoming tour dates.
Hynes had this to say about the mixtape in a press release:
“My new record is called Angel’s Pulse and I performed, produced, and mixed the entire thing myself. I’m calling it a mixtape.
I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time… I decided to release it.
I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them. I’m older now though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying… so here you go mates.
Hope you enjoy. Catch you soon.
Devonté aka Blood Orange.”
Back in April Blood Orange stopped by The Late Late Show with James Corden to perform two brand new songs: “Something to Do” and “Dark Handsome.” The former was more of a short piece that led into the latter. Perhaps they will appear on Angel’s Pulse?

Previously Hynes shared videos for two new songs from Negro Swan, “Charcoal Baby” and “Jewelry” (which were our joint #1 Song of the Week). Then he stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform a brand new song from the album “Chewing Gum,” clad in a T-shirt that read “Negro” and aided by A$AP Rocky, who was wearing a T-shirt that read “Swan,” and Memphis rapper Project Pat. Then he shared videos for “Saint,” “Chewing Gum,” and “Dagenham Dream.” He also did a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR. The album was follow-up to 2016’s acclaimed Freetown Sound.
