Blood Orange Speaks Out About The Fire That Destroyed His Apartment
“You own nothing except for what you have on you in that precise moment”

Blood Orange
Earlier this week, Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes lost all his possessions in a devastating fire that also claimed the life of his dog Cupid (the namesake for recently released album, Cupid Deluxe). Today, via a long Tumblr entry, the musician spoke out.
Hynes expresses his gratitude for the outpouring of support, partularly for those who have donated to the fund set up by his the mother of his girlfriend, Friends vocalist Samantha Urbani.
“If I am honest, the fundraiser makes me feel extremely uncomfortable,” he writes. “This isn’t me saying I don’t need the money, to reiterate, i have lost everything. But maybe it’s time I down some anxiety medication see a doctor and try and play some shows y’know?”
He goes on to note that while circumstances may force him to take some of the donated money (“Imagine being outside of your home one day. Then somebody presses delete, on the last decade of your life. You own nothing except for what you have on you in that precise moment.”), he plans on donating a large chunk of the fund to a series of charities.
In short, a class act.
Our thoughts continue to go out to Hynes. In the meanwhile, if you need any convincing that Cupid Deluxe would make an excellent Christmas gift, revisit the video for “Time Will Tell” below.
