Bon Iver (the project led by Justin Vernon) has announced a new EP, SABLE,, and shared its first single, “S P E Y S I D E,” via a music video. SABLE, is due out October 18 via Jagjaguwar. Erinn Springer directed the “S P E Y S I D E” video. Watch it below, followed by the EP’s tracklist and cover artwork.
Vernon produced the EP with Jim-E Stack, writing it from 2020 to 2023 and recording it at April Base in Wisconsin.
The most recent Bon Iver album, i, i, came out in 2019 via Jagjaguwar.
A press release says the EP strips “the project down to the primary elements on which it was originally founded. Before being Bon Iver meant playing a part.”
The press release adds: “Emerging from a slow-burning breakdown—possibly done with music, thinking increasingly about the process of healing—SABLE, is a space for Vernon to unpack the darkness, pressure and anxiety that amounted to one of the most trying periods of his life…. Named for near-blackness, SABLE,’s lyrics are direct projections of guilt, anguish and turmoil, but also unfinished business.”
In August, Bon Iver performed at a Kamala Harris and Tim Walz rally in Wisconsin.
