Bon Iver (the project led by Justin Vernon) is releasing a new album, SABLE, fABLE, on April 11, via Jagjaguwar. Now he has shared two more songs from it, “If Only I Could Wait” (which features Danielle Haim of HAIM) and “Walk Home.” Listen to both below.
Vernon had this to say about the songs in a press release: “For the second look into fABLE, it couldn’t be a single; it had to be a double. First, ‘Walk Home’ is a romp where you can’t wait to pull your clothes off fast enough and jump inside bed with your one true lover. And then—the two of singles—‘If Only I Could Wait.’ A duet. A bilateral crying question. How long can the two of us hang on to each other?”
Previously Bon Iver shared the album’s lead single, “Everything Is Peaceful Love,” via a music video directed by John Wilson of HBO’s How To with John Wilson.
SABLE, fABLE follows Bon Iver’s 2024 EP, SABLE, (the comma is part of the title), which came out last October. The album opens with all three tracks from SABLE,. The EP’s first single (and the new album’s second track), “S P E Y S I D E,” was one of our Songs of the Week. The last Bon Iver full-length album, i, i, came out in 2019 via Jagjaguwar.
Vernon produced the album with Jim-E Stack and recorded it at Vernon’s April Base studio in Wisconsin after it had been unused for a while during a renovation. The album began on 2/22/22 when Stack and Danielle Haim (of HAIM) showed up at April Base and they were all snowed in. This led to the creation of “If Only I Could Wait,” a duet between Vernon and Haim. A press release says that the SABLE, EP was the prologue and SABLE, fABLE is the book, but together they form the album.
Last August, Bon Iver performed at a Kamala Harris and Tim Walz rally in Wisconsin.
