Welsh singer/songwriter/guitarist Cate Le Bon has announced a new album, Crab Day. It’s her first for Drag City and is due out April 15. Le Bon made a film in Berlin with visual artist/filmmaker Phil Collins (presumably not that Phil Collins) to accompany the album and below is the funny little trailer for the film, followed by some tour dates.
Le Bon cryptically commented on the album in a press release: “Crab Day was lovingly formed in the mouth of the Pacific Ocean, as it quietly mocked us with its magnitude. It’s the sound of the ‘accidentally on purpose’ coming together of the right people at precisely the right time in an environment that furnished and fueled the abandonment we felt effortlessly. It’s a coalition of inescapable feelings and fabricated nonsense, each propping the other up. Crab Day is an old holiday. Crab Day is a new holiday. Crab Day isn’t a holiday at all.”
Le Bon’s tour dates include shows in New York and Los Angeles where she will perform Crab Day in its entirety with Los Angeles “semi-experimental, semi-improvisational music ensemble” BANANA. Or, as the press release puts it: “Comprised of Josiah Steinbrick, Josh Klinghoffer, Stella Mozgawa, Stephen Black, H.Hawkline, and Cate, BANANA will present a special opportunity to hear Crab Day in full color!”
Last year Le Bon teamed up with Tim Presley of White Fence as DRINKS, who released their debut album, Hermits On Holiday, via Birth Records and Heavenly Recordings. Be sure to read our 2015 interview with Le Bon and Presley about Hermits On Holiday.
