Charli XCX Announces New Album, “Sucker”
Shares New Track, "Break the Rules"
Aug 18, 2014 Charli XCX
After making herself a prominent fixture on the Billboard charts guest-spotting on Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” and delivering her own single “Boom Clap,” pop artist Charli XCX has announced the release of her sophomore album, Sucker. The follow-up to last year’s True Romance, the new LP is due out Oct. 21 via Neon Gold/Atlantic, and features the newly shared single, “Break the Rules.”
“The song is inspired by a lot of the things I was listening to whilst in Sweden at the end of last year,” Charli tells Buzzfeed, who premiered the song. “I spent about a month making a punk record and covering songs by Swedish punk bands like Snuffed By The Yakuza and stuff. This song was written when I came out of the other side of that punk phase and translated it into something more pop. Obviously, it’s about not giving a fuck.”
