Cloud Nothings are releasing a new album, Life Without Sound, on January 27, 2017 via Carpark. Now the previously shared first single, “Modern Act,” has a video and the band has announced some more tour dates. The video features the band as older men dealing with the loss of drummer Jayson Gerycz, but as a press release explains: “what starts out as a tragic loss for the band quickly becomes something much more sinister, however, as the members are slowly killed off by a nefarious devil.” Watch the video below, followed by all the band’s upcoming tour dates.
John Goodmanson (Sleater Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie) produced the album with the band (frontman Dylan Baldi, drummer Jayson Gerycz, and bassist TJ Duke). It was recorded at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas, for three weeks in March, 2016. A press release promises that the album “is Baldi’s most polished and considered work to date, an album that speaks to his evolving gift with melody while also betraying the sort of perspective that time provides.”
Baldi previously had this to say about the album: “Generally, it seems like my work has been about finding my place in the world. But there was a point in which I realized that you can be missing something important in your life, a part you didn’t realize you were missing until it’s there-hence the title. This record is like my version of new age music. It’s supposed to be inspiring.”
