Eagles of Death Metal were playing the Le Bataclan venue on November 13, 2015 in Paris when ISIS terrorists stormed it, shot into the crowd, and took hostages, in what instantly became a tragic international news story (89 people died). Now actor/director Colin Hanks (son of Tom) is making a documentary about the band, the attack, and the aftermath of it. It’s entitled Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends) and will air on HBO next February, but will also have a limited theatrical release. Hanks previously directed the 2015 documentary All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records and is also longtime friends with the band.

As Deadline reports, the documentary will have three parts. Part one will introduce the band and give some context and history. Part two will tackle the Le Bataclan and will include footage and sound from that night. Part three will be about the band’s return to Europe when they toured there again in February for the “Nos Amis Tour.” The film will also center on the relationship between the band’s Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. Hanks currently stars on the CBS sitcom Life in Pieces and got word about the Paris attacks while on the set.
