Crystal Castles Announce New Album
(III) Out Nov. 5
Sep 26, 2012
Crystal Castles
After dropping plenty of teasers this year Crystal Castles have officially announced the release of (III), the follow-up to their 2010 self-titled album. Out digitally Nov. 5 and in physical formats Nov. 6 on Fiction/Universal/Casablanca, the new full-length was produced by the band’s very own Ethan Kath, who enforced a no computers rule in the studio, recording everything directly to tape. Features the previously released song “Plague,” Kath says “We’d limit ourselves to one take on each song because we believe the first take is the rawest expression of an idea.”
According the band the album’s cover art is a copy of an award-winning photograph taken by Samuel Aranda taken in the aftermath of a street demonstration in Yemen on Oct. 15, 2011. In the picture a woman named Fatima al-Qaws is holding her son, Zayed after being subjected to tear gas. According to member Alice Glass, “Oppression is a theme, in general… A lot of bad things have happened to people close to me since II and it’s profoundly influenced my writing as I’ve realized there will never be justice for them. I didn’t think I could lose faith in humanity any more than I already had, but after witnessing some things, it feels like the world is a dystopia where victims don’t get justice and corruption prevails.”
