Cults (the duo of Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion) are releasing a new album, To the Ghosts, on July 26 via Imperial. Now they have shared its third single, album closer “Hung the Moon.” The band have also surprisingly remixed Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight,” which features Post Malone. The superstar shared their remix earlier this week. The original version is from Swift’s blockbuster album The Tortured Poets Department, which has been #1 on the Billboard U.S. album charts for 11 weeks in a row. Listen to both tracks below.
Oblivion had this to say about “Hung the Moon” in a press release: “It has a Twin Peaks, roadhouse vibe. It’s a sweet nursery rhyme set to an ominous tone. It goes back to the concept of growing up. Life doesn’t stop when you check all of the boxes; it gets crazier. There’s always possibility, adversity, and fun up ahead.”
To the Ghosts is Cults’ fifth full-length album and follows Host, which came out in 2020. The new album includes “Crybaby,” a new song the band shared in April that was one of our Songs of the Week. When the album was announced, they shared its second single, “Left My Keys,” which was also one of our Songs of the Week.
Cults started work on the album during the pandemic, which was written and recorded in Oblivion’s apartment, before the band worked with Shane Stoneback, who co-produced the album with Cults. John Congleton mixed To the Ghosts.

In 2022 they released the companion EP, Host B-Sides & Remixes.
Cults were featured on our Covers of Covers album, which was released for our 20th anniversary and is out now via American Laundromat.
