Damon Albarn, Charli XCX, and Others to Tour UK Via Train
The Africa Express To Begin This September
Jul 25, 2012
Damon Albarn
After completing his obligations with Blur at this year’s closing ceremony celebration for London’s Olympic Games, the nonstop projects of Damon Albarn will continue when he joins Africa Express, a collective of African and Western musicians that Albarn himself helped put together, as they perform a series of live shows throughout the UK.
Traveling by train, a popular mode of travel these days, Albarn will be accompanied by arists such as Charli XCX, Amadou & Mariam, Fatoumata Diawara, Rokia Traoré, Kano, Baloji, Jupiter & Okwess International, and Bombay Bicycle Club’s Jack Steadman, with even more acts to be announced at a later date. Featuring stops in Glasgow, Manchester, Bristol, and London, the tour will include “pop-up performances at railway stations, schools, factories, offices, shopping centres and homes” with the train itself serving as a “customized music carriage, with artists creating new material along the route.”
