Damon Albarn Congo Project On Its Way
New Details on Forthcoming LP
Jul 22, 2011 Damon Albarn
Damon Albarn is planning a unique way to make an album, inviting various artists, producers, and DJ’s to visit the Democratic Republic of Congo and collaborate with the region’s local musicians. All of the proceeds of the resulting sessions will be going to Oxfam, “an international confederation of 15 organizations working together in 98 countries and with partners and allies around the world to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice,” as stated on their website. The project is called DRC Music and the whole process of creating the album is set to take roughly a week. Collaborators include Richard Russell (boss of XL Recordings), Dan the Automator, Actress, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Kwes, Jniero Jarel, Marc Antoine, and Jo Gunton. Check out the project’s Tumbler, Twitter, and Facebook pages.
