Death Cab for Cutie‘s Ben Gibbard is covering Teenage Fanclub‘s 1991 album Bandwagonesque in its entirety. It will be released on July 28 on limited edition vinyl (with a download card) as part of Turntable Kitchen’s Sounds Delicious vinyl subscription series. Now Gibbard has shared a cover of Teenage Fanclub’s “The Concept” via an animated video. Watch/listen below via NPR.
The series has already featured Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado covering Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run and Yumi Zouma covering Oasis’ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and will also feature Local Natives, and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Kristin Kontrol covering favorite albums.
Gibbard had this to say in a previous press release: “Bandwagonesque is my favorite record by my favorite band of all time. It came along at a pivotal time in my musical life and I’ve loved it for over 25 years. It’s been such a blast taking these songs apart to see how they work and then putting them back together again.”
Pre-orders for the series are $25 a month (plus shipping) and are available here.
Sounds Delicious Vinyl Series:
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart with Kristin Kontrol & members of Titus Andronicus covering Tom Petty’s Full Moon Fever
Ava Luna covering Serge Gainsbourg’s Histoire de Melody Nelson
A special collaboration featuring Local Natives, Chris Chu (POP ETC), Evan Voytas, Andy Breihan (Guards/SACCO), and other TBA special guests covering Dennis Wilson’s Pacific Ocean Blue
Death Cab for Cutie’s latest album, Kintsugi, also came out in 2015 (via Atlantic). Read our 2015 interview with Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard.
