Dengue Fever Announce New Album, MP3 Premiere of First Single

Cannibal Courtship Due April 19

Feb 08, 2011 Dengue Fever

Dengue Fever return with Cannibal Courtship, the sextet’s Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group debut and fourth studio record that continues their intoxicating musical menagerie of Cambodian pop, ‘80s New Wave, African funk, and surf rock that has long intrigued audiophiles.

The Los Angeles-based outfit announced today that their 11-track follow up to 2008’s Venus on Earth is slated for an April 19 release. Dengue Fever will hold a record release party that night at LA’s Troubadour venue to officially launch their 2011 spring tour.

According to the band’s press release, Cannibal Courtship is “a departure from previous efforts,” as only three songs are sung in the Cambodian language Khmer—lead singer Chhom Nimol’s first language. “Before it was partly Cambodian and partly indie rock,” Dengue Fever bassist Senon Gaius Williams explained in the press release. “Now it’s 100 percent both.” The record also features extensive vocal contributions from The Living Sisters.

Along with the album announcement, Dengue Fever released an exclusive download of brand new, “spiky-rock” single “Cement Slippers,” available for download below.

Dengue Fever will be touring both the U.S. and Europe in support of Cannibal Courtship following its release. As of yet, only the North American shows (posted below) have been announced.
