Eleanor Friedberger (of the long on hiatus The Fiery Furnaces) released a new album, Rebound, back in May via Frenchkiss. Now she’s shared a video for “It’s Hard” and a remix of “Are We Good?” by Cate Le Bon. Christine Pfister directed the video, in which Friedberger enters a doll world, while a doll enters the read world. Check out the video and remix below, followed by Friedberger’s upcoming tour dates.

Pfister had this to say about the video in a press release: “For this piece, I thought it would be fun to put real Eleanor in the doll world and doll Eleanor in the real world. ‘It’s Hard’ is about a Greek nightclub, which is also the namesake of the album, so I wanted to focus on the Eleanors traveling to the nostalgic spot.”

Friedberger had this to say about the remix: “I’ve admired Cate’s work since a friend in LA put on Mug Museum after dinner. I learned how to play ‘I Think I Knew’ and later, ‘Love is not Love’—usually botching both in front of audiences—but always getting a cheer when I mentioned I was a big fan of Cate LeBon. We met the day after my 40th birthday in Cardiff; she and her friends sang ‘Happy Birthday’ in Welsh and she gave me a scarf with long, black fringe. I’ve been interested in the idea of remixing my own recordings for years, and thought Rebound was finally my first album that clearly lent itself to the silly notion. Instead of doing it myself, I thought it would be better to ask a talented friend. I was hoping for a series of remixes; we’ll have to wait and see…”

Le Bon had this to say: “I didn’t know what a remix was, I still don’t know what a remix is. I subtracted and added and made it longer.”

Previously Friedberger shared Rebound‘s first single, “In Between Stars,” as well as a video for “In Between Stars.” Then she shared a video for another song from the album, “Make Me a Song” (which was one of our Songs of the Week). Then she shared the audio for “Everything,” as well as a video for the song, and a video for “Are We Good.”

Rebound is the follow-up to 2016’s New View. The album was recorded mostly by Friedberger solo, with assistance from producer Clemens Knieper. A previous press release says Rebound is “an entirely new sound for Eleanor, exchanging live instrumentation for programmed drums, a Juno synthesizer, and muted guitars, creating a sonic landscape where influences range from Stereolab and Suicide to Lena Platonos and Yellow Magic Orchestra.” Friedberger is half-Greek and traveled to Greece frequently with her family. Rebound is inspired by time she spent in Greece in late 2016 and is named after an ‘80s goth disco in Athens.
