Everything Is Recorded by Richard Russell Out Now via XL

Everything Is Recorded is the project of Richard Russell, a producer and the founder of XL Recordings. He released his debut album, Everything Is Recorded by Richard Russell, earlier in the year via XL. Now he has shared a video for “She Said.” The song features Obongjayar and Kamasi Washington, who both also appear in the video. Dear Mr Quistgaard directed the clip, which you can watch below.

The album was recorded at Russell’s Copper House studio in London features a ton of collaborators, including guest vocalists Sampha, Giggs, Ibeyi, Infinite, Wiki, and Syd (alongside Obongjayar). The album also features instrumental contributions from Damon Albarn, Rachel Zeffira, Peter Gabriel, Green Gartside, and Owen Pallett (as well as the aforementioned Kamasi Washington).

Russell had this to say about the song and video in a press release: “I first heard Steven [Obongjayar] via a demo he put up on Soundcloud while I was recording my album. At that time he was based in East Anglia. I invited him to a session at my place in west London and asked Damon in to play keys…. The whole thing just clicked and we recorded ‘She Said’ in three hours. Obongjayar is just such a positive force. At the point we recorded the song he had no studio experience but he had great energy and instincts, the song was written and recorded spontaneously, then and there. Making the video was a blast, Steven got beaten up by some badass female martial artists, and I got to use my bonsai skills.”
