Finn Andrews is the frontman for The Veils. He’s pretty much the sole permanent member of the band, stretching back to their 2004 debut album The Runway Found, although The Veils have featured various other members over the years. Regardless, now Andrews is prepping his debut solo album, One Piece at a Time, and has shared its first single, and opening track, “Love, What Can Do?” There’s no word yet on when the album is out (via Nettwerk), but you can stream the single below via Clash (who premiered it).

Andrews was born in London, but spent much of his childhood in New Zealand and has relocated there after many years in the UK. His father, Barry Andrews, is also a musician and is a member of Shriekback, was a member of XTC, and has also played with David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and others.

Andrews had this to say about “Love, What Can Do?” to Clash: “I’ve got ‘Love, What Can I Do?’ right at the top of the record. I had a feeling it would be the first track, mostly because I just loved that opening chord. My dad often teaches me a weird piano chord when he comes to visit; I always ask for new ones because I’m still kind of a beginner on piano. It’s a cool little chord, and I thought it was appropriate to start with a chord from my father…. I feel like there is something I have been trying to do for a long time in this song. All the vocals are done live, which is something I’ve tried to do with The Veils but things always seem to end up getting cut up. But this one was start-to-finish just live there in the room. I’m not wearing headphones; I wanted it to be as much like playing a live show as possible. I love how intimate it is, I’ve wanted to write a song like that for a while.”

In 2016 The Veils released their latest album, Total Depravity, via Nettwerk. The album was co-produced by El-P (aka Jaime Meline) of hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, along with Atom Greenspan (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds) and Andrews. David Lynch is a fan of the band and Andrews appeared in Showtime’s new Twin Peaks series last year.

I see your point, but the ways the law of attraction is not fully understood, everything is connected and I believe we are influencing things in our lives through thoughts at some level. The subconscious mind is always working on things for us.
