First Image of Henry Cavill as Superman In “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”

Zack Snyder Gives Details On Upcoming Film

Jul 03, 2014 DC Comics

USA Today revealed the first official image of Henry Cavill’s Superman in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And if you were expecting anything similar to 2013’s Man of Steel, you’d be right.

The film’s director Zack Snyder also shared some details on his vision for the superhero icons in the new film, explaining that there is significance to the use of ‘v’ in the film’s title opposed to ‘vs,’ to “keep it from being a straight ‘versus’ movie, even in the most subtle way.”

He also explained that Ben Affleck will be portraying an older, more experienced Batman. Because of Batman’s history and portrayals in media, he felt jumping to a more mature Caped Crusader made more sense, saying “it’s cooler to see a crusty old Batman beating the snot out of guys.”

Batman v. Superman isn’t due out until 2016, but it’s only part of a bigger plan to build a DC film universe similar to Marvel’s Avengers, and will ultimately culminate in a Justice League movie planned for 2018. In fact, Gal Gadot is set to portray Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman, but Snyder says he has not begun working with her yet because “she’s working out and getting buff and ripped.”
