Earlier this morning the nominees for this year’s Academy Awards were announced and for some unknown reason there were plenty of names missing in the music categories. For some reason Trent Reznor, who won Best Original Score last year, found himself completely snubbed this year for this work on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. At the same time artists such as The National, Jónsi, and She & Him, who were shortlisted for Best Original Song, were also ignored. The only one to have seemed to passed through the gauntlet of consideration was Flight of Conchords’ Bret McKenzie and his ballad “Man or Muppet” from Jason Segel’s new Muppet movie. Boggling the situation even further is the fact that the only other song competing in the category is “Real In Rio” by Siedah Garrett for the animated parrot flick Rio. Here’s hoping the Academy manages to get at least something right when the big night finally approaches. In the meantime check out McKenzie’s written duet for Jason Segel and Walter below (spoiler alert: if you haven’t seen the film yet there’s a great cameo involved in this bit so you’ve been warned).
