Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie Shortlisted for Best Original Song Oscar

Close to 40 songs have been shortlisted for this year’s Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Among the names vying to be picked (the category will be narrowed down from three to five official contenders) are The National for “Think You Can Wait” (Win Win), Jónsi for “Gathering Stories” (We Bought a Zoo), and Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward for “So Long” (Winnie the Pooh). Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie landed himself two opportunities to be nominated with his work on The Muppets with “Life’s a Happy Song” and “Man or Muppet.” You can check out a video duet between McKenzie and Kermit the Frog below, as well as the full list of songs below. Official nominations are scheduled for Jan. 24, with the Academy Awards ceremony taking place on Feb. 26.
