Foo Fighters are releasing a new album, Concrete and Gold, on September 15 via Roswell/RCA. Now they have shared a new song from the album, “The Sky Is a Neighborhood,” via a video directed by frontman Dave Grohl. It features the band performing the song on the roof of a country cabin at night, while two young girls play with a mysterious book in the cabin beneath them. Then it gets a bit Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Grohl had this to say about the song in a press release: “One night I was lying out looking up at stars. Just imagining all of these stars as places that have life on them as well, and I decided that the sky is a neighborhood, that we need to keep our shit together in order to survive in this universe full of life. But I had no music yet. I just had the title. So everyday I would walk around, kind of humming this thing in my head.”
Concrete and Gold is the band’s ninth album and Greg Kurstin produced it. On October 7 Foo Fighters will headlining their new festival, Cal Jam ‘17 at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, CA. The rest of the lineup will include Queens of the Stone Age, Cage The Elephant, Liam Gallagher, The Kills, Royal Blood, Japandroids, Wolf Alice, Bob Mould, Bully, White Reaper, and more. The album includes the previously shared single “Run.”
Grohl had this to say about the album in a previous press release: “I wanted it to be the biggest sounding Foo Fighters record ever. To make a gigantic rock record but with Greg Kurstin’s sense of melody and arrangement… Motorhead’s version of Sgt. Pepper... or something like that.”
