As if the “New 52” DC relauch wasn’t enough to get comic book fans’ hearts all a flutter, today Fox announced they’re developing a drama series based on The Spectre. The series will be produced by Bill Gerber (Gran Torino) and Brandon Camp (John Doe) will adapt it to the screen.
The Spectre first appeared in 1940 and was co-created by the co-creator of Superman, Jerry Siegel, along with Bernard Baily. The character is a murdered cop who isn’t admitted into the afterlife, so becomes the spirit of vengeance, hunting down those who commit evil on behalf of their victims.
The crime fighting superhero will also have to fight for ratings against the CW’s announced show with DC’s character Deadman, which is also in development.
