Frankie Cosmos, the project of Greta Kline, along with her backing band, have announced a new album, Close It Quietly, and shared its first single, “Windows,” via a video for the track. They have also announced some new tour dates. Close It Quietly is due out September 6 via Sub Pop. Check out the “Windows” video below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art, as well as the upcoming tour dates.
Frankie Cosmos released their last album album, Vessel, back in March 2018 via Sub Pop, the band’s first for the iconic Seattle label. Although this spring Kline released a digital-only series, Haunted Items, where she released new songs each week over the course of a month. They were new stripped down songs written for the piano, performed solo by Kline. Haunted Items track “Rings (On a Tree)” reappears on Close It Quietly, although in a different form.
Gabe Wax engineered and co-produced Close It Quietly with the band. It was recorded at Brooklyn’s Figure 8 Studios. Kline’s longtime bandmates are Lauren Martin (synth), Luke Pyenson (drums), and Alex Bailey (bass). This time it seems like the rest of the band were even more involved in the recording process. “Everything will sound like Frankie Cosmos because Greta has such a distinct voice (literally and figuratively),” says Pyenson in a press release. “We have so much latitude to experiment with the instrumental music, and this time around we really took advantage of that.” The press release cites Broadcast and Stereolab as unexpected reference points for Close It Quietly.
Kline directed the “Windows” video with Eliza Doyle. Kline had this to say about the song in a press release: “This song takes place during the waiting period of healing, not knowing how to proceed or how to find the path to forgiveness. The inner versus the outer- learning to see yourself as part of the whole. For me the lyrics cover some of the slow movements of relationships, the shifts that occur in ways of thinking over time.”
