Frankie Cosmos, the project of Greta Kline, along with her backing band, released a new album, Vessel, last month via Sub Pop, the band’s first for the iconic Seattle label. Now they have shared a new video for “Apathy.” Comedian/radio host/director Tom Scharpling (The Best Show) directed the video, which features another band named Frankie Cosmos that become despondent upon discovering the Kline-fronted band with the same name. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Kline had this to say about the video in a press release: “I am a huge fan of Tom Scharpling’s work and was so thrilled that we got to work together on this video. I trusted him entirely and just wanted to let Tom and his team do their thing. We had so much fun making it…I was laughing so much that it probably took much longer than it should have to shoot my parts.”

Previously they shared a stop-motion video for its first single, “Jesse,” the puppet-tastic video for another song from the album, “Being Alive,” and “Apathy” via a video of a little toy dog being moved around by human fingers. There was also a new, more official video for “Jesse.”

Vessel is the follow-up to Frankie Cosmos’ breakthrough album Next Thing, released in 2016 via Bayonet Records. It is the third Frankie Cosmos full-length, but Kline’s 52nd release if you count all her bedroom-recorded, self-released output over the years.

Kline’s band for Vessel featured bassist/vocalist David Maine, keyboardist/vocalist Lauren Martin, and drummer Luke Pyenson. The four of them initially went to Binghamton, New York to live-track the songs over three days with producer/studio engineer Hunter Davidsohn at his studio Business District Recording (he worked on the previous two Frankie Cosmos albums). Then Davidsohn and the band did more work on the album in Brooklyn, with the help of Carlos Hernandez and Julian Fader of Ava Luna at their Gravesend Recordings studio. Then as the band started playing some of the new songs live they would invite members of their opening acts to join them on stage to contribute to the new songs and some of those additional musicians then later also joined the band in the studio to put the finishing touches on the album, including Alex Bailey (formerly of Warehouse, who has now replaced David Maine as a permanent member of the live band), Vishal Narang (of Airhead DC), and singer/songwriter Anna McClellan. Finally the album was mixed and sent to Josh Bonati to be mastered.
