Frankie Cosmos Share Video for New Song “41st”

Close It Quietly Due Out Tomorrow via Sub Pop

Sep 05, 2019 Frankie Cosmos

Frankie Cosmos, the project of Greta Kline, along with her backing band, are releasing a new album, Close It Quietly, tomorrow (September 6) via Sub Pop. Now they have shared another song from the album, “41st,” via a video for the track that was directed by Kline and features footage filmed on tour. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Previously Frankie Cosmos shared Close It Quietly‘s first single, “Windows,” via a video for the track. Then they shared another single from the album, “Rings (On a Tree).” An earlier solo version of the song appeared this spring on Kline’s digital-only series, Haunted Items, where she released new songs each week over the course of a month. They were new stripped down songs written for the piano, performed solo by Kline. This was a full-band version of the song. Then they shared another song from the album, “Wannago,” via a video for the track that features Kline playing four different judges in a TV baking contest, with the rest of the band the contestants and comedian Catherine Cohen as the host.

Frankie Cosmos released their last album album, Vessel, back in March 2018 via Sub Pop, the band’s first for the iconic Seattle label. Gabe Wax engineered and co-produced Close It Quietly with the band. It was recorded at Brooklyn’s Figure 8 Studios. Kline’s longtime bandmates are Lauren Martin (synth), Luke Pyenson (drums), and Alex Bailey (bass). This time it seems like the rest of the band were even more involved in the recording process.

“Everything will sound like Frankie Cosmos because Greta has such a distinct voice (literally and figuratively),” said Pyenson in a previous press release. “We have so much latitude to experiment with the instrumental music, and this time around we really took advantage of that.”

The previous press release cited Broadcast and Stereolab as unexpected reference points for Close It Quietly.
