Fucked Up
Fucked Up are releasing a new double album, Dose Your Dreams, on October 5 via Merge, their first for the label (in Canada it’s out on Arts & Crafts). Now they have shared another from the album, “Accelerate,” via a video for track. Mike Haliechuk directed the video, which features lots of quick cuts, including some footage of the band performing. Check it out below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
A press release describes the song and video in this manner: “As the lyrical centerpiece of the album, it storms in like Boredoms on a bullet train and dissolves into a digital nightmare. Our hero David finds himself exhausted and at his weakest point, and opts to render himself like a bomb that is ready to explode due to the constant charging and prodding of the consumer lifestyle. Before David does this, he plunges to the depths of his existence one last time…”
When Dose Your Dreams was announced they shared two songs from it, “Raise Your Voice Joyce” and “Two I’s Closed,” via a joint lyric video. Then they shared another song from the album, “House of Keys.”
Owen Pallett wrote the bio for the album. “I was sent an unfinished version of Dose Your Dreams so that I might contribute string parts. I couldn’t stop listening to the rough mixes I received. A friend asked me how the record was. I replied, ‘My God, Fucked Up have made their Screamadelica,’” Pallett wrote, referencing Primal Scream’s classic 1991 album. “And psych-rock-groove it is. The drums mixed wide, propensity for drones, for delay pedal, for repetition, groove. The politics and aesthetics of hardcore married to an ‘open format’ approach to genre. Elements of doo-wop, Krautrock, groove, digital hardcore.”
