Future Islands are releasing a new album, The Far Field, on April 7 via 4AD. Previously the band shared its first single “Ran,” and then they performed the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Now the Baltimore-based trio have shared a lyric video for another song from the record, “Cave.” The twist is that instead of flashing the lyrics up on the screen, they are delivered via sign language by Jonathan Lamberton, New York City mayor Bill De Blasio’s American sign language interpreter. Jay Buim directed the clip. Watch the unique black & white lyric video below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
The Far Field is the follow-up to the Baltimore-based trio’s acclaimed 2014-released breakthrough album Singles. Samuel T. Herring (vocals, lyrics), William Cashion (bass, guitars), and Gerrit Welmers (keyboards, programming) wrote the album in North Carolina and Baltimore. John Congleton produced the album at the Sunset Sound studios in Los Angeles. Blondie’s Debbie Harry guests on the album, singing a duet with Herring, “Shadows.” Patrick McMinn contributed string arrangements and this is the first Future Islands record to feature live drums by Michael Lowry. The album will be released “digitally, on 180gm white and standard black LP, CD, cassette formats, and as a unique, first-of-its-kind miniature LP.”
