1990s legends Garbage recently shared a brand new song, “No Horses.” Now the band have shared a video for the song. The video features frontwoman Shirley Manson singing the song in a white dress, intercut with politically charged images of protests, riot police, starving children, and horses. Scott Stuckey (the creator of the indie rock children’s show Pancake Mountain) directed the video, which you can watch below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Stuckey had this to say about the video in a press release: “It’s been my observation that when governments disregard their citizens for their own greed, the ensuing soundtrack usually kicks ass. Like Nina Simone’s ‘Mississippi Goddam’ or the Clash’s ‘Straight to Hell,’ ‘No Horses’ made me realize that I’m not going insane, these really are fucked up times. The lyrics are powerful so the challenge was to add something visually that wouldn’t ruin the individual’s interpretation.”
Garbage released a new album, Strange Little Birds, last year via the band’s own label STUNVOLUME. They are currently on a co-headlining tour with ‘70s icons Blondie. All proceeds from the sales and streams of “No Horses” will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross through the end of 2018.
Garbage also just released a new autobiographical coffee table book, This Is the Noise That Keeps Me Awake, via Akashic Books. It includes never before seen photos of the band, along with pieces written by each of the band members (Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker, and Butch Vig). The book was written with former Rolling Stone journalist Jason Cohen. A special edition of the book comes with a 12-inch vinyl featuring previously unreleased live versions of the following ballads: “Milk,” “You Look So Fine,” “Cup of Coffee,” “Bleed Like Me,” “Beloved Freak,” and “Even Though Our Love Is Doomed.”
