George Michael
A previously unreleased George Michael song, “This Is How (We Want You to Get High),” has been shared. It’s taken from the soundtrack to the upcoming romantic comedy Last Christmas, which, as its title suggests, prominently features the music of Michael and his former band Wham! and was written by Emma Thompson with Michael’s music in mind. The soundtrack is out this Friday, November 8, via Sony Music, the same day the film comes out in America. Watch the lyric video for “This Is How (We Want You to Get High)” below.
Last Christmas stars Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) and Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians). Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot) directed the film.
George Michael tragically died on Christmas Day in 2016. Work on “This Is How (We Want You to Get High)” began in 2012 and was finished in late 2015, during one of his final recording sessions. Emma Thompson, who also costars in the film, began work on her screenplay several years before Michael’s death and first met with Michael about it in 2013.
Thompson had this to say about Last Christmas and Michael in a press release: “The wisdom and emotional scope of George’s lyrics have always amazed me. So many feel like they were written for the movie. After I met George and experienced his compassion and understanding up close, I realized that in fact the movie was written for those lyrics.”
