With Gruff Ryhs’ upcoming solo album, Hotel Shampoo, being promoted as his most ambitious and accomplished work yet (quite a statement!), the Super Furry Animals and Neon Neon leader is bringing his monumental talents to the U.S. for a couple of shows in January. Los Angeles and New York are the lucky cities, and the shows are billed as stripped-down, acoustic sets.

Hotel Shampoo, released on Valentine’s Day in the U.K., has already been preceded by the single “Shark Ridden Waters.” (Check out the video for “Shark Ridden Waters” here.) Rhys is currently promoting the album with a string of U.K. dates and the construction of what he calls his “Hotel Shampoo design hotel and luxury apartments complex,” built entirely of materials he, shall we say borrowed, from hotels in which he’s stayed on previous tours. So flock to your nearest coast to see Rhys for the first time in 2011. No word yet on whether he plans to bring his hotel accommodations along with him. (www.gruffrhys.com)
