Portland based singer/songwriter Haley Heynderickx released her debut album, I Need to Start a Garden, back in March via Mama Bird Recording Co. Now she has shared a video for album opener “No Face” and announced some new tour dates. Evan James Atwood directed the video, which was shot via stop motion and features Heynderickx in silhouette while she sings the song and other arms and hands interact with her. Watch it below, followed by the tour dates.

In a press release Heynderickx says the video and song “stemmed from the idea of a Miyazaki character of the film Spirited Away, ‘No Face’ represents a soul in no-man’s-land, the song is an odd ramble written after witnessing a bar fight in Portland based on racial discrimination.”

Atwood had this to say about the video in a press release: “Haley and I wanted a silhouette for simplicity to complement the song. Shooting it surrounded by these plants, the palo santo, and the energy, it came together naturally in one take. We both loved how we tapped into the heart of the song itself - capturing the emotion so strongly.”
