Jan 21, 2013 Pussy Riot
Following its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this past weekend, HBO has purchased the distributing rights to Pussy Riot – A Punk Prayer, a new documentary about the Russian feminist punk collective Pussy Riot.
Directed by Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin, the film explores the arrest and trial of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alekhina, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, three band members that were arrested last year and found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred or hostility” after conducting a protest performance at Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Samutsevich has been freed since the sentencing, while Tolokonnikova and Alekhina are serving out a two year prison sentence.
No release date has been given for the film. (via Rolling Stone)
