Montréal’s Helena Deland released two interconnected EPs, collectively titled From The Series of Songs “Altogether Unaccompanied” Vol. III & Vol. IV, a couple of weeks back via Luminelle Recordings. Now she has shared a video for Vol. IV‘s “Claudion.” Bronwyn Ford directed the video, which features Deland doing a choreographed dance routine with her cousin, Claudia Picard-Deland. Watch it below via Pitchfork, who premiered it, followed by her upcoming tour dates.

Deland had this to say about the song and video in a press release: “The song is overall about the constancy of my relying on and trusting in my cousin Claudia. I marvel at how our relationship has remained essentially similar going through the extremes of childhood and adolescence and into the heavier nuances of adulthood. I have no footage of the choreography we’d make up and practice for months before we’d present them to our dads’ side of the family at Christmas, so this is a selfish homage to one of the ways we’d spend endless time around the age of 10.”

Previously Deland shared Vol. IV‘s “Claudion,” which was an honorable mention in our Songs of the Week list (but in retrospect should’ve made the main list). Then she shared the other track from Vol. IV, “Rise” (which was also an honorable mention on our Songs of the Week list). That was followed by track from Vol. III‘s “Lean On You” (which made our main Songs of the Week list).

From The Series of Songs “Altogether Unaccompanied” Vol. I & Vol. II came out back in March. Of her decision to release a series of EPs, rather than one album, Deland says in a press release: “The songs are to be considered as their own little things. They are part of something larger, yes, but they live on their own.”
