IDLES Share New Song “I Dream Guillotine” and Headbanging “Mercedes Marxist” Video
Joy as an Act of Resistance Out Now via Partisan

British political punks IDLES have shared a new song and a video for another song. They released a new album, Joy as an Act of Resistance, last year via Partisan. Today they have released a new 7-inch single, “Mercedes Marxist,” which was recorded at the same time as the last album. The A-side was previously shared in May. Now that the single is out they have digitally released the B-side, “I Dream Guillotine.” They have also shared a video for “Mercedes Marxist.”
Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern of ThirtyTwo directed the video, which features a man banging his head against various objects in beat to the music, starting at his corporate office desk and ending at a table in a pub. Perhaps it symbolizes the mind-numbing nature of routine in the modern world. Watch the “Mercedes Marxist” video and listen to “I Dream Guillotine” below. Also below are the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Singer Joe Talbot had this to say about “Mercedes Marxist” in a previous press release: “‘Mercedes Marxist’ was a strange beast for us, after ‘Rottweiler,’ it was the first song we wrote for Joy as an Act of Resistance. I was pissed off at what I was and where I was: I was sofa surfing on the weekends and spending the weeks looking after my mum. My life balance was way off and this song reflects just how useless I felt. It was me at my worst and without any buoyancy it became catharsis. It was the last splurge from Brutalism so we omitted it. I like it now.”
Joy as an Act of Resistance was just nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize.
