Interpol (Daniel Kessler, Paul Banks, and Sam Fogarino) have announced a new EP, A Fine Mess, and shared a new song from it, “The Weekend.” A Fine Mess is due out May 17 via Matador. It includes near title track “Fine Mess,” which the band shared back in January and was one of our Songs of the Week. Check out “The Weekend” below, followed by the EP’s tracklist and cover art, as well as the single’s cover art and the band’s upcoming tour dates. “Fine Mess” is below again too.

Interpol released a new album, Marauder, back in August 2018 via Matador. Dave Fridmann (MGMT, The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Mogwai) produced the album, which was recorded in two-week spells from December 2017 to April 2018 at his Tarbox Studios in Upstate New York. The five songs from A Fine Mess were also recorded then, but then underwent additional production by Kaines & Tom A.D. and mixing from Claudius Mittendorfer.

There’s an interesting story behind the EP’s artwork, as a press release explains: “Echoing its title, the artwork for A Fine Mess is illustrated by a series of lost images, recovered from an abandoned police station in Detroit, MI. In a crumbling evidence room - amongst the rubble - an undeveloped roll of film, dated ‘1-20-96,’ featured latent images of a breaking-and-entering scene, the rooms in chaos.”
