Interpol’s Paul Banks and Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA have joined forces to become Banks & Steelz (which sounds like the name of a ‘70s cop show). The duo have shared their first song, “Love + War,” which also features Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah. The song premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show on Apple Music and can be streamed below.
The song will be released digitally tomorrow and a video for the song will also debut tomorrow. There are also pop-up storefronts in New York (154 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002) and Los Angeles (410 N. Fairfax Los Angeles, CA 90036) where you can watch the video now. An album is in the works and Banks & Steelz are playing some festivals this summer (dates below). “For love sometimes we find ourselves at war and the combatants may do anything to win,” RZA says of the song in a press release. “For me love is worth fighting for, as long as love is not lost.”
Banks’ vocals mixed with verses from Ghostface Killah is a bit strange, but kind of works. Banks and RZA first started working on music together in 2013. As RZA explained to Rolling Stone at time: “When I met Paul, I recognized the New York energy he has as a music artist. We got to know each other playing chess and vibing out in the studio. Our talents connected in a unique way and we started writing songs. The outcome was something distinctively different from my previous work, yet with another layer of cool.”
Banks & Steelz Festival Dates:
8/27-8/28 FYF Festival - Los Angeles, CA
9/23-9/25 Life Is Beautiful Music & Arts Festival - Las Vegas, NV
9/30-10/2 + 10/7-10/9 - Austin City Limits Music Festival - Austin, TX
