Los Angeles dark electro shoegaze duo Io Echo have shared a new song, “Harm,” via its video. Frontwoman Ioanna Gika shot the video on her iPhone. It features her singing the song while her face changes. There’s also close ups of an octopus. There’s no concrete word on when a new album is on the way (which would be the follow-up to 2013’s debut Ministry of Love), so right now it’s just a standalone single out now digitally via Sargent House. NPR, which premiered the video, says the band is hard at work on their sophomore album. Watch it below.
Gika had this to say about the song and where they are at, in a press release: “I was faced with a personal seismic shift. Several of my immediate family members died, including my father and stepfather, and my long term relationship disintegrated. My remaining family moved from Southeast Asia back to Greece to find it in economic disrepair, while the U.S. slid towards political turmoil. I felt as though I was standing in the ocean in front of an inescapable wave. When there is no way out, no option, other than to brace yourself and let it hit and flow through you with its unstoppable tide. ‘Harm’ was written during this time, and reflects the emotions and clarity that can come from facing a destructive situation head on.”
