John Grant has announced a new album and shared a bloody album teaser trailer. Grey Tickles, Black Pressure is due out October 2 via Partisan. It’s the follow-up to 2013’s widely acclaimed Pale Green Ghosts and was produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen). Based on the creepy album cover and the demented album trailer (which features Grant covered in blood holding a bloody croquet mallet), his dark and biting sense of humor remains intact.
The “Grey Tickles” in the title come from the direct translation of “midlife crisis” from Icelandic to English, whereas “Black Pressure” means “nightmare” in Turkish. So essentially the title translates to “Midlife Crisis, Nightmare.” “I wanted to get moodier and angrier on this record,” said Grant in a press release, “but I probably had a lot more fun making it.”
Grey Tickles, Black Pressure also features guest appearances from Tracey Thorn, Amanda Palmer, and former Banshees drummer Budgie. Check out the trailer below, followed by the album’s tracklist and Grant’s upcoming tour dates.
