Johnny Depp to Star in Wes Anderson’s “The Grand Budapest Hotel”
No Word Yet Who The Other Hotel Guests Will Be
Jul 19, 2012 Wes Anderson
We’re big Wes Anderson fans around these parts (check out our interview with the Moonrise Kingdom director here). And after, years of being enchanted (and disturbed) by his roles in the likes of Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd, and the Pirates franchise (just to name a few) we’d be amiss if we didn’t have a certain affection for rogue heartthrob, Johnny Depp. So what happens when you put a idiosyncratic auteur and a iconoclast actor together? Pure magic we hope.
In some of the most exciting casting news as of late, recently it was announced that Depp would step into Anderson’s world for forthcoming film, The Grand Budapest Hotel. The facts (as we know them so far): The film takes place in Budapest (duh), and after kid friendly films Moonrise Kingdom and The Fantastic Mr. Fox, this is probably not a film you want to bring the family to.
Things we’re willing to bet will be a safe bet: the film will star one of the following: Bill Murray, Owen Wilson or Jason Schwartzman. There will be a larger-than-life color pallet. One or more of the characters will have daddy issues.
No word yet on a release date. Anderson’s previous film, Moonrise Kingdom made $44 million at the box office.

Great news! Looks like it’s a good time for me to start a Johnny Depp marathon, and since he’s been in such a long list of films I’ll have plenty of time to watch them all before I see this film in theaters. The Blockbuster @Home queue that I setup through Dish when I started working for them has been a great way for me to log what films I’d like to watch. Their selection is surprisingly large, so I know that I won’t have a hard time filling my Depp marathon!

I think Hollywood stars these days draw less and less of the crowds than they did in the 80s and 90s. A big name like Johnny Depp would probably guarantee box office success, but even he has a number of movies that did less than satisfactorily. Because of that, I am having reservations about the new movie, even though I am a fan of Wes Anderson and Depp.
