Kim Deal Leaves the Pixies
"We will always consider her a member of the Pixies"
Jun 14, 2013 Kim Deal
The Pixies have announced the departure of founding member and bassist Kim Deal. The band, who haven’t performed together since November 2011 said in a statement: “We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.”
Deal helped form the Pixies in 1986 after answering an ad in the Boston Phoenix. Following the release of the band’s second album Doolittle tensions between Deal and frontman Frank Black led to a hiatus of the band, leading Deal to form The Breeders. Deal would ultimately reunite with the Pixies to record 1990’s Bossanova and 1991’s Trompe le Monde. In 1993 Black disbanded The Pixies to pursue his own solo career but reunited the group once more in 2004. For the past number of years the group has been engaging in a series of sporadic live performances.
