As reported last week, Ladytron‘s Helen Marnie showed off photos that suggested she was working on a solo album in Iceland. Confirming the news in a recently issued statement today Marnie says “After five studio albums with Ladytron and some time on my hands between work with them, I finally decided now was the time to make an album I’ve always wanted to make. A solo album. I wanted to make a record that was more delicate, majestic, perhaps more pop orientated, with pristine vocals, but most of all, me. Lyrically, the album is expansive, but the elements do play a part in much of the record, with the sea being particularly dominant and reoccurring. The album is straight from the heart. I can’t put it any other way. It means a lot. It is everything around me, my loves, my life, hopes and loss. Ultimately, the album is a battle. Battling myself. Dealing with what life throws at you and trying to decipher it. Everyone can relate to that.”

As it turns out, however, the Ladytron frontwoman is a little short on cash. As a result the UK singer/songwriter has announced the launch of Pledge Music Campaign to help fund the recordings and kickstart things in gear. As an incentive to help raise the money, Marnie has put together a variety of exclusives ranging from the ordinary but cool (fans can pre-order the album, get an 8 x 10 signed studio photo, a disposable camera filled with random shots taken by Marnie, a tote bag) to the outright awesome (the bikini that appears in the above promo photo, a pair of dseigner shoes and dress worn by her in Ladytron’s “Tomorrow” video, a test pressing of the album, and even her 1998 Rover Mini Cooper Sport named Beauty). “The last year has been spent writing, and I’ve actually surprised myself and grown in confidence with regards to songwriting,” says Marnie. “I am scared, I’m nervous, but ultimately I am excited and hope you will be able to help me fulfill this dream.”
