LCD Soundsystem Are Releasing Two New Songs at Midnight
Reunited Band to Play Saturday Night Live This Weekend
May 04, 2017 LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem originally broke up in 2011, but they have since reformed, have played some shows, and are prepping a new album. This Saturday they are the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, with Captain Kirk himself, Chris Pine (no doubt promoting his Steve Trevor role in Wonder Woman), as the guest host. And of course bands perform two songs on SNL, so tonight at midnight LCD Soundsystem are releasing two songs they’ve recently performed live: “Call the Police” and “American Dream.” Frontman James Murphy revealed the news in a Facebook post, pointing out that the songs will be released at midnight local time in whatever time zone you live in, meaning fans on the other side of the world will get to hear them before us Americans.
Murphy writes: “In other news, we’re releasing 2 songs tonight at midnight (and i mean, literally, midnight. wherever you are. so, like, australia first, and so on and so forth) via the digital things that people use now on their devices. these songs are named ‘call the police’ and ‘american dream’. we played them both at brooklyn steel. they’re new. i (james) mixed “american dream” DFA Studios, and my friend dave sardy mixed “call the police” at his sweet place in LA last week, and shuttled them quickly to the great bob weston (at Chicago Mastering Service) to master them so we could get them out today.”
He also promises that the new album is almost done and will be coming out on vinyl at the same time it’s out digitally, but this double A-side single will not be released on vinyl (although both songs will be on the album and there will be no B-sides for this album). Read the full post below, followed by a funny promo video for this week’s SNL featuring Pine and Kate McKinnon dancing around the SNL studios to LCD Soundsystem’s “Dance Yrself Clean.”
