Liars Announce New Album via Strange Teaser Videos
New Album Due Sometime in 2017 via Mute
May 18, 2017
Liars
Liars have shared five teaser videos that announce that a new album is on the way. Each teaser video is titled by a single letter; put together it spells “Theme.” None of the main details about the album (tracklist, cover art, release date, first single) have been shared. A press says that Liars is essentially just frontman Angus Andrew now, that he amicably parted ways with fellow member Aaron Hemphill and “decamped to his native Australia to create an album unlike any Liars had attempted before.” The album is promised in 2017 via Mute. Watch the teasers in the playlist below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates (which will feature a new live lineup). More teasers are promised throughout the summer.
The press release also promises: “The bustling backdrops of Los Angeles, Berlin and New York have been replaced with a presence far more intimate and autobiographical as Liars once again boldly step out of their comfort zone into vastly new musical territory.”
Andrew had this to say in the press release: “My favorite feeling is going into the complete unknown. What’s the point in making something you know you can? My goal was to make creative decisions that keep me awake at night.”
